Wedding vendors are a huge part of your wedding day, so booking the best ones is a crucial piece to how your special day will play out. Before booking your wedding videographer, make sure to know the answers to these three important questions to ask your wedding videographer to ensure that they’re a good fit for your perfect day!

3 questions to ask your wedding videographer before booking:

  1. How do you approach filming a wedding day?

You want to ask a wedding videographer how they approach filming a wedding day to ensure that their methods align perfectly with your personality. Will they be directing you throughout the day and setting up moments for beautiful cinematic shots, or will they have a documentary approach like me, capturing emotions and moments while hanging back to let them unfold naturally?

If you know what style of wedding videography you’re looking for, this question will help make sure your videographer aligns with your vision. An editorial and cinematic film will include a more directed approach while a documentary wedding film will allow you to be immersed in every part of the day and will create a more relaxed atmosphere in which you don’t feel like you need to act in front of the camera - you just have to be yourself!

Michelle and Ryan’s fun-loving and laid-back personalities matched perfectly with my documentary style of wedding videography, so I was able to capture so many fun moments from their Arizona wedding at the Windmill Winery! From the bubble sendoff, to the clip throwing the groom in the air, to the getaway car, we definitely captured fun moments from this Arizona wedding day while they were able to be themselves rather than acting in front of the camera.

  1. What collection or coverage would you suggest for a day like ours?

Personally, as an Arizona wedding videographer who has been filming weddings for six years, I have learned what is typically best for a couple after hearing their vision for their big day. After a discovery call with a couple, it is usually clear to me what other films would best be in their collections, like a teaser, the full ceremony, speeches, etc.

Your videographer should be able to guide you here to decide which collection or coverage most aligns with your idea of your special day! This is one of the most important questions to ask your wedding videographer because it’s so important to building your wedding day timeline.

In Michelle and Ryan’s wedding videography questionnaire, they provided me with timeline information and any special activities taking place, so I knew the exact coverage I needed for their special Arizona wedding day, and I was able to send everything they needed.

  1. Can we see a full gallery?

If you have found a wedding videographer on social media, chances are you are seeing clips of their best work. Before booking a wedding videographer, make sure you watch a full wedding video that they’ve created to ensure that you love everything about their work. Pay attention to pacing, editing, and the small details throughout the whole film. You want to make sure the wedding video captures the days where you feel like you can remember every detail and tells the story how you want to remember it.
